The future of Internet access in twenty years time will revolutionise the education system and change the entire landscape of higher education in particular. Your bricks and mortar university will be few and far between. We are already seeing the changes in virtual education in most developed country but this will become norm across the world by twenty years time. We would be in a position to pick courses of our choice for higher education and learning will be on the go where enhanced mobile technology will aid access. MOOCs are the leading examples of how learning for us will change and technology will be the main driver for world education. The future and rising educators will have to adapt accordingly to deliver high quality maximum visual courses if they are to motivate learning.
I managed to find an article which sums up future of education posted by Matt Britland. He says it won’t be one specific device as technology changes constantly. Teaching and learning will be fun and social. According to him cloud is the future of education where teachers can collaborate, collect, assess work online. He says with the cloud, the world will be our classroom. Online learning will change teaching and learning as a whole. Students can learn from anywhere and teachers can teach from anywhere.
Here is an excerpt “The cloud can also encourage independent learning. Teachers could adopt a flipped classroom approach more often. Students will take ownership of their own learning. Teachers can put resources for students online for students to use. These could be videos, documents, audio podcasts or interactive images. All of these resources can be accessed via a student’s computer, smartphone or tablet. As long as they have an internet connection either via Wifi, 3G or 4G they are good to go.
This is where devices come in. All devices, no matter which ones we will use in the future, will need to access the cloud. Each student will have their own. Either a device specified by the school or one they have chosen to bring in themselves.
School classrooms are going to change. Thanks to the cloud and mobile devices, technology will be integrated into every part of school. In fact, it won’t just be the classrooms that will change. Games fields, gyms and school trips will all change. Whether offsite or on site the school, teachers, students and support staff will all be connected. In my ideal world, all classrooms will be paperless.”
I also think augmented reality will become one of the features of internet learning in the future. We are already seeing Google educational apps, 3D wearable glass for computer and many more being invented. With these gadgets and technology students can learn independently and in their own pace from anywhere on any device. They can collaborate with their peers and as mentioned by Matt it will be a fun and enjoyable social and interactive learning.
One thing is for sure the landscape of future education in twenty years time will involve internet and like we are now, future generation will look back in awe how internet has come about and change the world with its legacy.
