Social Media Bane of Many People’s Life

socialnSocial media sites are the bane of many people’s life, as almost on a regular basis I would say where they can neither forsake completely nor feel able to use it freely, regularly without annoying someone for being the cause of an argument, upset or disappointment in amongst the company of family and friends.

Social media sites such as Facebook in particular, as it has the wider audience and plus many other media sites are part of everyday life for most people these days from the time they get up until they go to sleep. Their need for these sites is so great to the extent of exclusion of everyone; where people are constantly glued to their mobile devices or stuck at their desk on computers. So much so I have literally seen people walk into a lamp post, into the ditch, run into crowd and even contributed to road traffic accidents.

Whilst it is great to have information and being able to keep in contact with everyone on just touch of a button, it is also important that we don’t lose our innate social behaviour of interaction without the aid of these modern technologies. It almost feels like these social media has become part of both utopia and dystopia phenomenon put together where all levels of thinking and behaviour blown out of irrational proportion.

The very thing, the concept, the ideal, the foundation, the social medias are based and created is to help us build that social bridge and enhance community cohesion and keep us closer with our near and dear ones could also be the cause of untold sufferings for many. We know there is a degree of constant online bully, tease, abuse; you name it which goes on and even stalking virtually online I hear. Furthermore whilst it is great to have such tools to adapt and improve our social community cohesion we also need to be mindful of its negativity and how it affects others if not used wisely.

There has to be an education around the use of social media sites right from an early age. I am a believer and an advocate of educating information literacy to all ages to make them fully understand the benefit it brings and as well as the problem associated with it. We need to react now and “the power that be” need to wake up to different social challenges we now face and what difference they can make to the society at large. Primarily this would be only possible with the partnership of parents/guardians; teachers and students included and if we do this we can potentially overcome unexpected issues surrounding online social medias.

Ultimately it is down to an individual to understand other fellow beings feelings whenever one decide to post anything. Stay safe online and be compassion to everyone when posting materials on whatever social media sites you use.

It’s out of control now, soon no one will have any time to be social because of social media. But then there would be absolutely nothing but adverts to see.
