Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten (Stupa)

The Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten is a stunning Buddhist monument located in the Punakha Valley of Bhutan. It was built in 1999 under the command of the Queen Mother of Bhutan, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, to promote peace and stability in the region. For me it is not just a religious site but also a beautiful example of Bhutanese architecture and craftsmanship.

If you love architecture and history, you will find similar monuments dotted across the land in Bhutan and this one is an addition to Bhutan’s religious and cultural landscape but has quickly become a popular pilgrimage site and tourist attraction now.

The chorten or stupa is adorned with intricate paintings and sculptures depicting various aspects of Tibetan Buddhism, making it a place of both spiritual significance and aesthetic beauty. It is surrounded with picturesque rice paddies and mountainous forests with meandering rivers below, adding to the overall experience of tranquillity and serenity for visitors.
